Samarium Cobalt Magnets
Samarium Cobalt Magnets
Samarium Cobalt (SmCo) Magnets and Neodymium Iron Boron (NdFeB) Magnets are collectively known as rare earth magnets. SmCo Magnets are more expensive than the neodymium magnets and has a lower MGO value, between 24MGOe-28MGOe. However, Samarium Cobalt Magnet does offer higher working temperatures up to 575 degrees F.
SmCo magnets are available in different grades with a wide range of properties and application requirements. SmCo magnets are anisotropic, and can only be magnetized in the orientation direction.
SmCo magnet is brittle, the machining is processed before magnetization, we are able to fabricate SmCo magnets to customer’s specifications.
Edgetech Industries, Magnetics Division provides SmCo magnets in:
SmCo Magnets are available in sintered as well as bonded forms. The corrosion resistance of SmCo magnets is better than Neodymium magnets. Coatings for corrosion resistance are therefore not generally required for Samarium Cobalt magnets.
SmCo magnets are mechanically very weak, and magnetically very strong. They must be handled very carefully to avoid damage and injury to personnel handling the magnets. Receiving and assembly personnel should be warned about the dangers of handling magnetized rare earth magnets (samarium cobalt magnets and neodymium magnets).
