Alumina ceramics are used as relay products in new energy vehicles

Electronic control technology is an important indicator of the development level of new energy and energy-saving electric vehicles. High-voltage DC ceramic relays can also become the core components of electronic control systems.

Traditional relays are limited by their manufacturing technology (especially the small contact gap). When connecting high-voltage DC and low-power factor inductive loads, the relay contacts are extremely prone to bonding failure or connection arc burning contact system failure.

In response to this phenomenon, some researchers have developed a new type of high-voltage DC vacuum relay. In a vacuum cavity sealed by metal and ceramic, the ceramic insulator is slidably connected between the moving contact assembly and the push rod, so that the moving contact and the static contact can maintain good electrical insulation with the magnetic circuit system composed of the relay’s magnetic yoke iron plate, iron core and other parts in any state of conduction or disconnection, thereby ensuring the relay’s arc-breaking ability when switching DC high-voltage loads.

Electric arcs are the main cause of automobile spontaneous combustion. Only the use of “arc-free” on-off relay products is the best way to fundamentally solve the problem of “spontaneous combustion” of automobiles, and the insulation properties of ceramics can play a role here. High voltage DC ceramic relays are mainly divided into two parts: ceramic shell and metal moving contact, among which the most important ceramic shell material is 95 alumina ceramic.

Edgetech can provide a variety of advanced ceramic precision machined parts such as tubes, washers, insulators, rods, flanges, and other high-strength ceramic parts to meet customers’ customized requirements.
